How to change search engine in Microsoft Edge & Internet Explorer?

Changing search engine in Internet Explorer:-

Internet Explorer, as developed by Microsoft, obviously uses Bing as the default search engine. For changing the default search engine in Internet Explorer go through the following steps after opening Internet Explorer:-

Step 1: Type anything in the address bar. Internet Explorer will show you search suggestions from Bing as illustrated in this screenshot. Then click on Add besides the Bing icon.

Step 2: After clicking on ‘add’ you will be directed to the page which includes the list of search engines that you may want to use. This list includes the likes of Yahoo, YouTube, Google and many other search engines. The page looks something like this –

See if your preferred search engine is present in the list. Now click on Add icon besides the name of the search engine (I have used Google for illustrative purpose).

Step 3: After clicking on ‘Add’ icon you will be shown a pop up. Be sure to check on ‘Make this my default search provider’ checkbox else Internet Explorer will just show search suggestions from the provider and not actually search on the particular search engine. After checking on “Make this my default search engine’ click on Add.

Now you must have successfully changed the default search engine on Internet Explorer.


Changing search engine in Microsoft Edge:-

Microsoft Edge being a Microsoft product also uses Bing as a default search engine. For changing the search provider on Edge you may follow the following steps after opening Microsoft Edge:-
Step 1: Visit the search page of a search engine you would like to use. For example, if you would like to use Google as a default search engine, visit or if you would like to keep DuckDuckGo as you default search engine, visit In the illustration that I am about to present I would make Yahoo search as the default search engine. But please note that you may do the same thing to any search engine, be it Yahoo, Google, DuckDuckGo etc.

Step 2: After opening the page, restart the browser and then click on the three dots that you may see in the upper right corner. This will open the options of the Microsoft Edge.

Step 3: After clicking on three dots click on Settings which is present at the bottom of the list. This will open a list of setting as given in the picture below.

Step 4: In settings menu, after scrolling down a bit you will see a button called ‘View Advance Settings”. For changing browser click on ‘View Advanced Settings’. This will take you to the menu where you may change your browser’s default search engine.

Step 5: Now you can see the option of ‘Search in the address bar with’. Use that option. Click on Bing (it is the default search engine).

Step 6: Below Bing, you can see the other added search engines (in this picture you can see Google as an added search engine because I had added Google before). If you want to add any search engine click on ‘’ tab. After this click you will be directed to the list of pages of search engines that you have visited which includes the search engines you visited in Step 1.

Step 7: Click on the search engine that you would like to make your default and then click on ‘Add as default’ and then the search engine is used as default in your browser. Visiting the search engine is necessary to add the page to the list.
